The FIGC have confirmed the date for the upcoming Presidential elections following Italy’s disappointing group stage exit from EURO 2024.
When FIGC will hold next election
The Italian federation will hold an election on November 4. Current FIGC President Gabriele Gravina had called for an election on November 4 immediately after Italy’s exit from the Euros, but that was later postponed and has now since been re-confirmed.
Gravina remains under fire after the disappointing display in Germany under Luciano Spalleti, whom he had appointed after the resignation of Roberto Mancini last year.
Both Gravina and Spalletti were faced with calls for resignation at the start of July, but the FIGC President refused to step down and also stuck by the national team coach, insisting that Italy had signed up for a multi-year project when they appointed Spalletti last summer.
Gravina, who will turn 71 in September, has been in office as the President of Italian football’s governing body since 2018, and also serves as a vice-President of UEFA’s executive committee.
Italy disappointment at EURO 2024
Speaking the day after Italy’s exit from EURO 2024, Gravina said: “Today is a special day, there are so many feelings and things to reflect on from yesterday. We are sorry for not having been able to give the Italian fans the joy they deserved, sorry for the result, we know that these things are subject to lots of different variables, including defeat.”
He continued: “We have nothing to hide, but we must continue to take responsibility. There was a long chat with the coach yesterday and I think that it is unthinkable to solve the problems by abandoning a multi-year project after eight to nine months.”
“Central to our project is a coach who has been here for nine to 10 months, who has not always had all the players available. Our trust has to work as there is already a new challenge in 60 days’ time.”
“Spalletti has our trust, a new challenge begins in 60 days and we can’t hope that a Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi or Mbappe will suddenly pop up in Italy. We have to value the talent that is there in our country, all the youth teams have qualified for the final stages of tournaments.”

Perhaps Seria A should take the brunt of responsibility for failing to employ Italian talent!
Most serie a teams are 10 foreigners and maybe 1 Italian, if at all!
We need to return to the max 3 foreigners per team like it used to be!
Totally agree with Vittorio, Serie A Is entirely to blame, all the top clubs full of second rate foreigners whilst Italian talent is either wasted or has to go abroad. Italy will not qualify for the World Cup either.
Since the Italian football clubs decided to base their teams on foreigners the level may has helped a little to some, but on the other hand, it had done more harm, in the Italian plays left on the bench as spectators reduced to by far to flourish. The 3 foreign players in the ground, how it used to be, in my opinion is the best thing to improve a wider choice of higher level.
