The FIGC Prosecutor’s Office are reportedly considering reopening their investigation into Monza’s Armando Izzo after he was handed a five-year prison sentence earlier this year.

A report from Il Fatto Quotidano via Calcio e Finanza details how the 31-year-old defender was found guilty of associating with the Neapolitan Mafia and sporting fraud regarding a betting scandal during his time with Avellino in the 2013-14 Serie B season.

Izzo was handed a five-year prison sentence by the courts back in March of this year. Due to the way the Italian justice system works, he’s only at the first stage of the process and isn’t considered guilty until the fourth and final stage of the appeal process has been completed. He won’t serve prison time until then and may not ever be behind bars.

The FIGC originally handed the defender an 18-month ban, which was later reduced to six on appeal. This was served at the end of the 2016-17 season and start of the following campaign.

Following the court’s decision, the Italian FA have now asked for all the documents related to Izzo’s case and are now considering reopening his sporting case for a second time, provided that new information is uncovered.

  1. Instead of opening reopening a case on izzo they should investigate the politicians in italy and the gravina. What a disgrace.
