La Gazzetta dello Sport reported yesterday that Alessandro Bastoni had tested positive for coronavirus during the training camp in Tirrenia ahead of the European Championship qualifiers against Iceland and Republic of Ireland.

The FIGC statement reads: “Two players of the Under-21 national team, currently in Tirrenia ahead of the qualifying match for the European Championship scheduled for Friday against Iceland, have tested positive for COVID-19.

“The players in question, completely asymptomatic, had tested negative to the first swab carried out on Sunday October 4 and had been admitted to the team group as per current protocol.

“Training today has been cancelled and the team have been placed in isolation since last night awaiting the indications of the competent ASL, promptly notified.

“The players and staff negative in the second swab will repeat the molecular tests this morning.”
