FIFA to make Mevlja decision

Empoli are reportedly optimistic that Zenit St Petersburg defender Miha Mevlja will be cleared to play for the club.

Mevlja’s loan switch was agreed on deadline day and the registration was made in time, but due to technical issues, the fax did not come through until two minutes after the cut-off point.

It was then claimed the Slovenian had given up on the move, but Gianluca Di Marzio’s website writes FIFA will inform Empoli of its decision ‘in the next few hours’.

A similar saga saw Adrien Silva’s transfer to Leicester City delayed until January 2018 after the paperwork for his move from Sporting CP did not reach FIFA until 14 seconds after the August 31 deadline.

According to Sportitalia, Mevlja has already arrived in Empoli and is training with the team today.
