Despite the threats of protests from Napoli, FIFA published the Club World Cup qualification route and reiterated that Juventus are currently in position to take the spot.

FIFA have revamped their Club World Cup ahead of next year, setting up a 32-team tournament to be hosted every four years involving clubs from across the globe. A number have already booked their spots in the competition, with Inter being the only Italian representative for now.

One more slot is available for Italian teams and it’s currently a battle between Juventus and Napoli, with the former tentatively holding the spot for now. Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis recently asked his lawyers to work on an appeal to block the Old Lady on the grounds of their recent financial issues.

FIFA decided to provide an update on the Club World Cup qualification route, highlighting how Juventus are currently on track to secure the final Italian spot, unless Napoli or Lazio progress further in the Champions League.

As of now, this appears to be a sign that De Laurentiis’ frustrations and protest will come to nothing. For Lazio, they’d need to win the Champions League to take the final spot from the Bianconeri, whilst Napoli just need to reach the semi-finals of the competition.
