“As you know, the current owner announced to us overnight that he concluded a deal that will pass control of the club quite rapidly to Dan Friedkin,” Fienga told Sky Sport Italia.

“Naturally, because this is a club floated on the stock exchange, we cannot make any other comment until the paperwork is completed, as there are majority and also minority shareholders to be protected.

“I hope that all this will lead to progress and growth for Roma.”

Could it be a distraction or extra motivation for the Giallorossi squad to get this news on the day of a big match?

“We didn’t need any other motivation this evening, as the team arrived in Germany fired up and it’s a tournament that we really want to win.

“Everyone is very concentrated. Sevilla have an extraordinary track record in this competition, but our players are confident and can’t help but be motivated for this test.”
