Roma CEO Guido Fienga has assured that Serie A clubs are ‘united’ and will work to ‘be ready when the authorities let us resume’.
Lega Serie A announced yesterday that all 20 top-flight sides were on board with the intention of completing the 2019-20 season.
Fienga [pictured, left] spoke before the meeting today, reiterating the statement of unity made by the Lega yesterday, and argued the controversy had stemmed from ‘misunderstandings’.
“A unity of vision has emerged with regards of the resumption of training and football,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“I underline this because the image being put out is a partisan and contrasting one, when it is all simply a misunderstanding.
“There were discussions, but the League’s position is united and compact, working to solve the problems and not exploit them.
“We work to be ready when the authorities let us resume and we will make available our wealth of knowledge, protocols and controls to the community, for anyone to use.
“From the meeting on Wednesday, I expect a constructive discussion, not just simply on the dates. But we need to discuss what can be done between institutions and football, and the contribution of the latter, which can be formidable, not only for the resumption of the season, which would certainly please everyone, but above all for our normal life.
“Roma want to finish the season. Roma’s position is to end this process and, like all Italian citizens, try to minimise the impact of the coronavirus as much as possible.
“We were immediately extremely sensitive in putting the protection and health of everyone first, from players to fans.
“I remember the uncertainty before the Europa League match against Sevilla, when we immediately took a strong position.
“Certainly, as for all citizens and all industrial activities, we have an ambition of returning to normality, or even a new normality that can’t be like the one before but has to be lived in coexistence with the coronavirus.
“Unfortunately, it’s the new element that we must take into consideration in the resumption of activities.”
Fienga concluded he was certain normal life would resume with the help of football.
“I’m more than convinced, I’m convinced of the help and the role that football can play to help recover this new normality.
“I think that for the productive activities and for the normal life of all citizens, resuming today in coexistence with the coronavirus means having the possibility of an easy and low-cost access to fast and secure systems of diagnosis.
“It’s the only way until there’s a vaccine for this coronavirus to try to resume normal activity, which is the aspiration of all, and limit the risks.”
