Zlatan Ibrahimovic was expected at Milanello on Friday afternoon, but the former striker has a fever, so he won’t meet Stefano Pioli and his former teammates at Milanello before next week.

The 42-year-old formally returned to Milan earlier this week when RedBird officially appointed the ex-striker as an Operating Partner and Senior Advisor to Ownership and Club Management.

Ibra has several duties in his new role, including players’ development at Milanello.

He was expected to return to Milanello for the first time since his appointment on Friday afternoon, but several reports in Italy, including Calciomercato.com and Milannews, claim the 42-year-old has a fever, so he won’t be at Milan’s training ground today.

Pioli’s men are preparing for a home Serie A fixture with Monza, which kicks off on Sunday at 11:30 GMT.

Ibrahimovic didn’t fly to Newcastle for a Champions League fixture on Wednesday and is expected to return to Milanello next Monday.
