Gianluca Festa says his Cagliari side ‘kept hope alive’ after thrashing Parma 4-0 at Sant’Elia tonight.

The Isolani are six points from safety with four games to play, but would have been all-but relegated were it not for their win tonight.

“The lads have become aware of what they can do,” Festa explained to Sky after the match.

“We’ve been working hard to get them playing to the maximum. Another step which has kept hope alive. That’s the desire we always go onto the pitch with.

“My boys are good players, they’ve shown that today. Everybody played well today, and we’re happy.

“I came in when I had to, I wouldn’t seek to diminish the work of those who came before me [Zdenek Zeman and Gianfranco Zola].

“I found a team which was physically fine, which maybe just needed a little bit of a boost.”
