Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero doesn’t think Francesco Totti has been “well treated” by Roma.

Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero doesn’t think Francesco Totti has been “well treated” by Roma.

The Blucerchiati take on the Giallorossi on Sunday afternoon, and the patron gave an interview to Corriere dello Sport about the match.

“I’m expecting a great game, when you play at home 50 per cent of the match is won by the fans,” Ferrero said.

“We have nothing to lose, they do. In the Coppa Italia they played all of their starters, which means they fear us. That was a game decided by incidents. War is war, in a sporting sense.

“The Scudetto doesn’t depend on this match. Let’s play, I’d be very happy to get a result.”

Ferrero then moved on to the subject of the Lupi’s President, James Pallotta.

“I think Mr Pallotta is angry. He came up to me in the stands and yelled in my face, causing a jealous scene because I told your newspaper that I preferred [Lazio President Claudio] Lotito to him.

“Without jealousy, I think he’s a very lucky man because he found great directors at Roma, though he lost a great asset in [sporting director Walter] Sabatini who I think is a champion.

“Would I buy Roma? We all have our dreams in life, and mine is to win with Sampdoria. It’s well known though that I was born in the neighbourhood where Roma were founded. You can’t control the heart.

“Roma belongs to the Romans.

“Totti? I’m lucky enough to know him, he’s one of the smartest lads in Italian football. I don’t think he’s been well treated, but it’s none of my business.

“Francesco is Roma. Roma isn’t Pallotta, Roma is Totti and whenever I see him I kiss him all over.”

Antonio Cassano was released by Samp yesterday, having been in dispute with the club since the end of last season.

“I’m happy for the lad, we fulfilled his wishes,” Ferrero explained.

“He’s a great champion and he can still be useful somewhere, but he can’t be part of our project.”
