The rumours have emerged due to the lack of renewing with the former Roma coach, who is on an expiring contract after the season.

The coach has been coy about his future but has hinted he would gladly extend his stay in Liguria and praised his team ahead of the match with Hellas Verona on Saturday.

“There is talk of meetings with new coaches,” Ferrero told ANSA. “But I haven’t met with anyone.

“We have Ranieri, with whom I will meet myself soon.

Ferrero claimed he has not discussed a new deal with Ranieri due to the tight programme in recent months and pointed at the upcoming schedule to underline his point.

“Now, three games await us in one week,” Ferrero said. “They will not be able to distract us from our targets.

“We are only thinking of winning, of improving our position even further.”

Ranieri has helped Sampdoria to 10th in Serie A this term, and could close the gap up to ninth-placed Verona to two points with a win against the Gialloblu tomorrow.
