Massimo Ferrero ‘didn’t like Paulo Sousa after three minutes’ of his Sampdoria interview, and gives Walter Zenga his backing.

The Blucherchiati President told Tuttosport about his interview process for a new Coach this summer, while ruling out a potential sale of the club.

“Zenga needs to return to earth after being abroad for so long, he must get things into perspective, but he has worked hard and now I’m sure that we’ve made the right choice,” said Ferrero.

“This summer I met three Coaches but I did it at the end of the season, unike other clubs did with Sinisa, lacking respect and destabilising the environment.

“In June I spoke with Sousa and after three minutes I didn’t like him.

“I liked Sarri but his style takes time to implement, he was asking for a radical transformation of the team and we were already progressing on the transfer market.

“I was afraid of losing the first six games. Zenga was the right choice.

“Sampdoria is not for sale. Gabriele Volpi? I've never met him. We talked only once, on the phone, because we were interested in a Spezia player.

“I would only open the door of the club to a partner who would guarantee me to make the leap in quality.

“This is for the sake of the fans, not for myself. To build an even stronger team and play for objectives that make you dream.

“I also love winning. If Samp needed money I would have sold Soriano and Eder for €25m.”
