Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero says Gregoire Defrel will return from Roma but that Gianluca Vialli’s proposed takeover is ‘the joke of the summer’.
Competition for Defrel has been fierce, with Cagliari long on his trail and Sassuolo threatening to break through.
However, Ferrero is ‘more than confident’ the striker will be back at Samp soon.
“Defrel will give us the green light tomorrow,” he told reporters in Milan.

“Defrel will give us the green light tomorrow,” he told reporters in Milan.
“He received so many offers, seeing as he’s a great player. We must be confident.
“If he comes to us, it’s because he’s already played for Sampdoria and felt very good with us.
“We’re not confident about our chances of a deal. We’re even more so!”
The 28-year-old scored 11 goals for the Blucerchiati last season and will be reunited with Eusebio Di Francesco, his Coach at Roma and Sassuolo.
The film producer was then asked about Vialli’s efforts to buy the club.
“It’s the joke of the summer. You [journalists] have been talking to people who have given you the wrong information.
“The fans are under the illusion that the great Vialli can do who knows what.
“I’d be very happy if he buys the club, but he must tell his team to increase their offer.”
“Everyone says Ferrero has given up, but Ferrero isn’t even staggering.”
