Ciro Ferrara makes his official Sampdoria debut in the Coppa Italia tonight and points out this trophy “is one of our objectives for the season.”

The Blucerchiati enter the tournament from the Third Round with a visit to Serie B side Juve Stabia, kick-off at 19.30 UK time.

“We cannot leave anything to chance in a game that could become important and give us an unexpected road into greater things. I expect great pressure,” said former Italy Under-21 boss Ferrara.

“This is the first time we are playing an in-or-out match and there are no second chances. The Coppa Italia is one of our objectives for the season, especially as we have no international commitments.”

Samp have been heavily linked with Malaga’s Enzo Maresca, while Andrea Poli looks likely to stay at the club.

“I am certain there will be transfer activity, both in-coming and out-going. Maresca is not yet a Samp player, so I could only give my view on the player after the transfer is completed.

“We have to clarify that we never wanted to release Poli, it’s just that he was in a market situation that saw him involved with very big clubs. I have already told the club that Poli staying here is important.”
