The former Juventus Coach will have his first outing for the Azzurrini tomorrow against Turkey.
“I hope the lads can be first team players in their respective squads, because we analysed the statistics and found in the past when the Under-21 side was the most successful in Europe, its key players were first team picks at club level too,” said Ferrara.

“I hope the lads can be first team players in their respective squads, because we analysed the statistics and found in the past when the Under-21 side was the most successful in Europe, its key players were first team picks at club level too,” said Ferrara.
“We are in construction and I think the current campaign can also tell us something about these players. The doors are open to everybody and I only hope they are able to play regularly throughout the European Under-21 Championship qualifiers.”
Italy failed to reach the finals of the 2011 tournament after a shock play-off defeat that meant the end of Pierluigi Casiraghi's reign.
“I pick up my professional career with enthusiasm and when I received the call from Arrigo Sacchi it was a surprise, as I had no contact previously. I am proud and happy with this job,” continued Ferrara.
“Everyone in Italian football has to change mentality for the Under-21 side to be successful again. If the youngsters play and the results don't come, they are the first to pay the price.
“Therefore I'd like to see some rules laid down to make them play. We import talent now, whereas other countries prefer to create them.”
The new tactician, whose management career consists of less than a year at the helm of Juventus, outlined his ideal team.
“I like a side with character that lets itself be heard. We are starting the qualifying campaign six months early and with some elements who have already tasted senior international football.
“There are also lads born in 1992 and those from Lega Pro clubs. It is an important moment for them to prove their quality not just tomorrow, but also at club level.”
