“There has been talk of this for weeks, since Hristiyan Ilievski decided to return to Italy and speak to the magistrates in Cremona.”

Ilievski has been considered the chief of a betting syndicate involved in trying to fix games in Italy.

Above all, his testimony could re-open a case looking into a match between Genoa and Lazio in 2011.

Aquile captain Stefano Mauri already sat out a six-month ban for failing to alert the authorities to a potential fix.

He denied all wrong-doing, while the authorities originally tried to impose a three-year ban for actively participating in the fix.

If Lazio were to be removed, the Champions League position would go to the next team down the table – Fiorentina.
