Federico Fazio expects to end his career at Roma and is looking forward to seeing Claudio Ranieri again, even if he’s now in charge of Sampdoria.

The Argentina international spoke to Roma TV ahead of Sunday’s trip to Samp, who are making their debut under new Coach Ranieri, who saw out last season with the Giallorossi.

“Ranieri is a Coach with so much experience in football, he took on a team that was not going well, but can give them the push they need,” said Fazio.

“I’ll say hello to him before the match, of course, but we want to win this, even if it’ll be difficult.”

Roma have an injury crisis to deal with, as Edin Dzeko is unlikely to feature after surgery on a fractured cheekbone, even with the aid of a protective mask.

“It’s not yet certain that Dzeko won’t play on Sunday, but Nikola Kalinic is an important player for us too. Diego Perotti is working to get back into shape after his injury and I can see daily improvements in Javier Pastore in training.

“Chris Smalling has adapted very well to Serie A, even if it is different to the football in England. Gianluca Mancini is also a talented centre-back, so I can play alongside either of them.

“It’s important that we win, because we can’t let ourselves fall too far off the top spots. At the same time, we want to go far in the Europa League, although the initial focus is on just winning the group.”

Fazio is keeping a close eye on his old club Boca Juniors and former teammate Daniele De Rossi, who has a new experience in Argentina.

“De Rossi is doing well, we keep in touch and I hope we win the second leg against River Plate. I don’t know if I will finish my career at Boca, as I expect to conclude it at Roma.”
