The 29-year-old has been linked with the Giallorossi in recent days, and Sky reports that a deal has been agreed for a loan with €4m obligation to buy.

Fazio is expected in Rome for a medical later today, but the team’s Coach warns the deal isn’t done yet.

“We’re following him, and we’d like to complete the signing even if it isn’t official,” Spalletti explained in a Press conference after beating Liverpool 2-1 in St Louis.

“It would give us a chance to have another body in defence. He has important characteristics, he’s won the Europa League.

“He didn’t play consistently in England, but he has experience, he’s a solid player with a strong mentality. We’re curious to see him at work consistently.”

Goals from Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Salah saw the Lupi beat Liverpool, and Spalletti discussed the friendly.

“When I’m referencing things the team did well tonight, I also have to mention [goalkeeper] Alisson who had two or three important interventions where he did well, he has physical presence and personality.

“He needs to prove in terms of starting the play with his feet, but he’s absolutely a player worthy of Roma. He’s a person you can rely on.

“There were a lot of times the ball was given away in the final third in the first half where both teams could have scored more goals, so I think we lacked a bit of personality because I think we could have used the ball better.

“When you play a team like Liverpool, if you don’t hold onto possession when then obviously you’ll have some problems.

“We could have done a few things better, but I must say there are other things we did well.”
