The new arrivals made an immediate impact, as Francesco Totti’s corner found the head of ex-Tottenham Hotspur defender Fazio to open the scoring.

Totti turns 40 next month, but seemed to be in fine form and his angled drive skimmed the base of the far post, while Diego Perotti forced a save and Alessandro Florenzi nodded over.

Vermaelen arrived from Barcelona this week and he almost scored on his debut as well, but turned a Perotti assist wide.

Latina goalkeeper Carlo Pinsoglio kept the scoreline down with saves on Kevin Strootman and Stephan El Shaarawy in the second half.

Spalletti experimented with a 3-5-2 system as well.
