Favilli missed the second half of last season with an ACL injury, but the Italy Under-21 striker – who joined Genoa over the summer – insists he has ‘grown quickly’ from the experience.

“My knee injury and long spell out have changed me on a personal level,” he told the Grifone’s official website.

“You grow so quickly from such experiences, both on the field and in life. Maybe it will take a bit of bedding-in to get back to 100 percent, but I’m working hard to do that.

“I often passed through the Morandi bridge to get to Turin. I never liked it, it was horrible.

“We were all in shock about what happened. Feeling the pain of so many families at the funeral was harrowing, but we need to move forward.

“Staying up is our primary objective. We want to give joy to the Genoa fans and have a serene season together. We also hope it’ll be a happy one.

“We’ll take stock at the end of the season. I have a great shot on me? Yes, but I’m also improving my accuracy with certain exercises.

“I didn’t think I’d find my feet so quickly. I thank everyone for the reception I’ve received. it was easy to fit into such a group.

“The many fans of Pisa and my city told me of the friendships that existed with the people of Genoa.

“That was good to know. The word Genoa evokes the fans, stadium and derby in me. I can’t wait for Sunday.”
