Gerson’s agent-father has confirmed that ‘talks have just started’ for the Fiorentina midfielder to join Flamengo in January.
Gerson has been an ever-present for Fiorentina in Serie A this season, but his dad revealed the Roma loanee was ‘happy’ and ‘honoured’ by Flamengo’s interest, with the Brazilian side in need of a replacement for Milan-bound Lucas Paqueta.
“We’re happy about the interest from Flamengo. It means we’ve done a good job,” he told Radio Brasil.

“It would be nice if we went back to Brazil, but my son isn’t doing badly in Europe. It’s an honour for him to be linked with Flamengo and the future remains open, but now we’re focused on football.
“Talks have just started and there will be new meetings in the next few days, but Gerson is happy at Fiorentina and we’re not in a hurry to close the deal.
“He’s a professional and the changes are normal, but Gerson’s head is fine.”
