Former Inter President Massimo Moratti has discussed the positive impact Coach Roberto Mancini has made on the squad, as well as his persistence with regard to transfers, and Fassone agrees with both those sentiments.

“With Mancini we can start talking about a mini-cycle,” the director general said in an interview with Radio Rai.

“We’ve won eight points in our last four matches, there’s renewed enthusiasm.

“When we asked about his availability in November, Mancini showed himself to be a Coach who likes to know the financial situation.

“We’re doing things together, we’re trying to build something important within certain parameters, there are more restrictions than in the past.

“Mancini has never made any secret of wanting to play in a certain formation with new players, we still have 20 days to rebalance the books after the expenditures we’ve made.

“We’ve completed two loans, the impact of the budget is only related to the wages of players.

“We need to reduce the size of the squad and wage bill, then we’ll evaluate whether or not there are other opportunities on the market.

“We’re under UEFA’s magnifying glass, we want to show we’re respectful of the rules.

“The summer transfer market was based on the needs of [former Coach Walter] Mazzarri, now Mancini has other priorities.

“Some elements of the squad don’t gel with the priorities of our current Coach, but that can happen when you change Coach.

“I think if Mazzarri had stayed it wouldn’t have changed the nature of our transfer dealings, but in the past we tried to satisfy him according to his preferred formation.

“Now we have the opportunity with [Lukas] Podolski and [Xherdan] Shaqiri. I have to thank Arsenal and Bayern Munich, who understood our situation by accepting loan deals.

“Now we’re looking at other things, we’re looking for a certain balance, we have a big squad.

“Should conditions be right, we’ll talk with [Inter President Erick] Thohir and Mancini about any other business.”

With the Nerazzurri having completed two transfers while under investigation for Financial Fair Play, there is inevitable speculation that some stars may leave, but Fassone has moved to reassure fans.

“No-one will be sacrificed in January, but after this season a lot of things could happen.

“We’ve already got spending planned for next summer, we’ll have to be good at growing the club’s revenues, by getting into the Champions League or moving in other directions.

“Some sales, if we’re in difficulty, might be inevitable.

“Osvaldo? For now he’s still an Inter player. We’ll try to understand the dynamics, including those within the squad. Then we’ll take action for the good of Inter and the player.

“We’re six points behind third place, there are 20 games to play.

“We’re aiming for the Champions League, but we’re trying to strengthen our revenues regardless of qualification to Europe’s top competition.”
