Andrea Pirlo’s debut in the Turkish Super Lig did not go to plan, as Fatih Karagumruk were beaten 4-2 by Alanyaspor, who are coached by Italian Francesco Farioli.

The match was the first for former Juventus boss Pirlo on the team’s bench and resulted in a heavy 4-2 home defeat.

Farioli’s side were already 2-0 up by the half-hour mark thanks to Wilson Eduardo and Efkan Bekiroglu goals.

Karagumruk fought back through another two Italians, as Fabio Borini and former Genoa player Davide Biraschi both found the net.

However, Wilson Eduardo completed his brace before a stoppage-time Erencan Yardimci effort to round out the six-goal thriller.

Farioli, who would not be allowed to coach in Serie A because he does not have the necessary badges, had his team play out from the back and take an important three points.

The 33-year-old was only a goalkeeping coach in Italy with Benevento and Sassuolo, before acting as assistant manager to Cagdas Atan at Alanyaspor in 2020-21.

Farioli was also the coach of Fatih Karagumruk from March to December 2021, before moving to Alanyaspor that month.
