Fans held up a banner praising the Inter squad for their 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield, despite suffering Champions League elimination.
The Nerazzurri went into the match earlier this week 2-0 down on aggregate following a poor performance at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza last month, so it was always going to be a tall task for Simone Inzaghi’s side. They performed admirably and looked threatening as they scored the opener, until Alexis Sanchez picked up a silly red card to kill the team’s hopes.
Seen in the stands of the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino during the match against the Granata this evening was a banner thanking the Inter squad for their victory over Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. The banner read: ‘Thanks anyway, warriors.’
Despite the elimination, it was an impressive result from the Nerazzurri, who had never beaten the Reds at Anfield prior to that match. The two previous visits to the North West of England resulted in a 3-1 loss in the 1964-65 season and a 2-0 loss in the 2007-08 campaign.
