The thought of a 35-year-old Francesco Acerbi facing off against future Ballon d’Or winner Erling Haaland has caused shockwaves amongst fans, with some laughing at the prospect and others distraught.
Inter and Manchester City will battle it out for European glory in the Champions League final, playing for the trophy at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul on June 10.
The Nerazzurri booked their spot in the final after beating intercity rivals Milan 3-0 on aggregate in their semi-final tie, whilst the Cityzens flew to a 5-1 aggregate win over Real Madrid, looking unstoppable in the second leg.
Haaland will be the leading figure for Manchester City in the final, forcing Simone Inzaghi to find the right defensive solutions to shut out the goal-scoring machine. Acerbi has featured heavily for Inter this season and will likely start the final, setting up an on-pitch duel that has prompted much discussion amongst supporters.
Acerbi and Haaland have already met on the pitch before, during a Champions League group stage clash between Lazio and Borussia Dortmund in the 2020-21 season. The Norwegian striker found the back of the net in that game, although his side lost 3-1.
