Destiny Udogie made a painful error in Tottenham’s Premier League loss to Newcastle United, earning widespread criticism from fans and onlookers.

The 21-year-old Italian left back has shown a number of positives during his debut season with Spurs, scoring twice and providing three assists across 27 league games, earning him a spot in Sky Bet’s Premier League Team of the Season, an inclusion that raised eyebrows.

Udogie was started by Ange Postecoglou for Tottenham’s Saturday afternoon league clash with Newcastle, where he failed to show his best as his side collapsed in a tough 4-0 loss. Unfortunately for the 21-year-old, one moment in particular will continue to frustrate him on retrospect.

Udogie criticised

The Italian talent was forced into action when Newcastle broke forward in the 30th minute and at first, he seemed to take control of the ball after a quick jostle with Anthony Gordon. It started to slip away, however, and he easily fell to the floor when the Englishman showed a hint of physicality.

Whilst some suggested that Udogie was fouled, referee Tim Robinson and the majority of onlookers felt the 21-year-old went down far too easily, making a silly error that changed the tide of the match.
