“I had an injury before, but the problem now is that the Coach picks other players. These things happen in football and unfortunately at the moment I am playing less,” he told Romanews.eu.
“The arrival of Stephan El Shaarawy and Diego Perotti has taken away some of my space, while there’s also the likes of Mohamed Salah, Edin Dzeko, Totti… We are Roma and there is competition for places.”
Even captain Totti isn’t getting much playing time now, but Iago Falque assures his standing is unaffected.
“A player like him is a symbol and a leader, because he’s been here for a lifetime. He is a leader because he is quite rightly respected by everyone, regardless of how often he plays.”
Does Falque therefore want to send a message to Coach Luciano Spalletti?
“No, he sees me every day in training. He knows me well, knows that I work well and I’ll continue like this to prove he can count on me.”
There are reports that sacked Roma boss Rudi Garcia could be headed for Valencia. Will Falque follow him there?
“I’d like to play more often here at Roma, as I have a very long contract. I wish Garcia the best and if Valencia do get him then it’ll be a great move, because he’s a fine Coach.”
