Suspended Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli met with the Piedmont Order of Psychologists for his first session to help treat his gambling problems.
The 22-year-old Italian midfielder was the first player implicated in the Serie A betting scandal in the summer, admitting to prosecutors that he placed bets on football matches on illegal platforms. In response, he was handed a seven-month ban, sidelining him until late May 2024.
Fagioli, who was also fined €12,500, has also been signed up for gambling addiction treatment and has to make at least 10 public appearances to discourage others from following in his actions. Juventus recently renewed his contract to June 2028, backing their midfielder.
Speaking to gathered reporters outside the meeting via TMW, Fagioli was first asked how he feels.
“I feel very good, the first meeting was a constructive one, both for me and for the other people present. I miss playing with my teammates, but I’m happy for what they are doing.”
The 22-year-old then spoke about when the next meetings would be held.
“We still have to agree everything with the FIGC, but I think many meetings will be in Piedmont.”
Fagioli was also asked if he wanted to send a message to the outside world.
“Difficult question. I’m just telling you about my experience, especially for those who are younger than me and don’t have to experience things like things.”
Giancarlo Marenco, the president of the Order of Psychologists of Piedmont, then spoke to the press about Fagioli’s work.
“We set up a circular situation so that everyone could participate. I think it was a constructive dialogue, Nicolo felt comfortable and expressed his opinion on the matter. It was a fruitful meeting.”
