Luis Alberto sparked transfer market drama at Lazio when revealing his desire to leave in the summer, so what’s next for the Spanish star?

The 31-year-old midfielder has been a vital player at the Biancocelesti for a long time, having arrived in August 2016 from Liverpool, being a central part of both Simone Inzaghi and Maurizio Sarri’s systems in the Italian capital.

Luis Alberto sparked controversy when he told the media after the win over Salernitana that he planned to leave Lazio on a free transfer in the summer, something president Claudio Lotito later ruled out, making it clear that a buying club would be needed.

Luis Alberto situation

Transfer market expert Matteo Moretto provided an update on the Luis Alberto situation at Lazio via Caught Offside.

The 31-year-old was recently informed by the club that he wouldn’t be an important part of Igor Tudor’s new project and that his position would be discussed at the end of the season. He has long dreamed of returning to Spain one day, with Cadiz in particular an attractive destination.

For now, the relationship between Luis Alberto and Lazio has been destroyed by his unexpected statements and a solution will be found in the summer. It’s clear that he’ll have to drop his €4m net per season salary if he wants to find a new home in Spain.
