Former Serie A striker Simone Tiribocchi believes Giacomo Raspadori can do great things alongside Romelu Lukaku at Napoli, but is unsure about Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Napoli confirmed Conte’s appointment as their new head coach on Wednesday.
The former Juventus, Inter and Chelsea boss signed a three-year contract and the Partenopei fans can’t wait to see him take charge of the team after a highly disappointing season.
There are reports that Conte has already called Romelu Lukaku to replace Victor Osimhen if the Nigeria international leaves and Tiribocchi believes the Belgian would leave his mark at the Stadio Maradona.
“They are two great strikers. Osimhen is much better on paper, but if he goes, Lukaku is a suitable replacement who has already done well with Conte,” Tiribocchi told Radio Marte via Calcionapoli1926.
“If the coach wants to make this move, it’s fine.”
Napoli may not be among the favourites to win the title next season. Still, Conte already turned things around pretty quickly at many other clubs before, so it would not be surprising to see the Azzurri fight for the Scudetto again in 2024-25. It remains to be seen if Conte will persuade Kvaratskhelia to remain at the club. Otherwise, he will be forced to look for a replacement for the Georgian star, who is wanted by Ligue 1 giants PSG to replace Kylian Mbappé.
Kvara has entered his third year at Napoli, but Tiribocchi believes his potential sale may not affect the team too much.
“It depends on the team that Conte wants. I am not sure Kvara can play behind Lukaku because he loves to play on the wing,” said the ex-striker.
“Napoli will need dynamic players who run a lot and who can be dangerous with late runs.
“Napoli will be among the protagonists with Conte. They’ve had many strong coaches like Carlo Ancelotti, Maurizio Sarri, Luciano Spalletti, and now Conte. After Spalletti, he [Conte] is the best Italian coach.”
On the other hand, Italy international Raspadori can shine under Napoli’s new coach in 2024-25, according to Il Tir.
“Raspadori can do great things behind Lukaku, and I think this role would be ideal,” he said.
“Raspadori and Lukaku can play together and form an excellent strike partnership.”
Conte had been without a club since leaving Tottenham by mutual agreement in March 2023.
“Napoli is a place of global importance. I’m happy and excited at the idea of sitting on the Azzurri bench,” Conte said after signing his contract with the Partenopei.
“I can certainly promise one thing: I will do my utmost for the growth of the team and the club. My commitment, together with that of my staff, will be total.”
