Former Cagliari and Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan has been thrust into controversy again after being caught smoking during the warm-up of Royal Antwerp’s match against Standard Liege.

The 34-year-old midfielder joined the Belgian side last year after leaving Inter on a free transfer, leaving Italy for the first time in over a decade. He signed a two-year deal with Royal Antwerp and has been a divisive figure since his arrival, sometimes showing glimpses of his quality and other times disappearing in matches.

As highlighted by Alfredo Pedulla, Nainggolan was seen smoking on the bench during the warm-up to Royal Antwerp’s away game against Standard Liege. The club were understandably not impressed and sent the 34-year-old to the B team.

It’s not been an easy time for Nainggolan, who was reportedly arrested last week for driving drunk and with an expired licence. He was released on bail following the incident.
