While Salernitana continue the hunt for a new director of sport, Walter Sabatini is reportedly in talks with both Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos.

Sabatini joined Salernitana in January when they were rock bottom of the table, completely transforming the squad and bringing in coach Davide Nicola, sparking an historic comeback to secure Serie A survival.

However, he was fired last week after failing to agree on a strategy going forward with President Danilo Iervolino, who refused to give the all-clear to commission payments for agents of players.

Iervolino is new to football and finding it difficult to adapt, as it’s reported his meeting with Riccardo Bigon today also failed to find him on the same page, so the search for a new director continues.

Meanwhile, Sabatini has been linked with Greek side Olympiacos, but the favourites are surprisingly Nottingham Forest, who just earned promotion to the Premier League.

Sabatini is something of a legend in Italian football, the 67-year-old chain-smoking transfer wheeler and dealer who worked for Lazio, Palermo, Roma, Jiangsu Suning, Sampdoria, the Montreal Impact, Inter, Bologna and Salernitana.

  1. With both clubs owned by Marinakis, it looks like he is delivering on his pledge of supporting Cooper and providing him with a competitive team to try and stay in the prem next season. Even if he takes the Olympiacos job, I think he will still influence forest’s transfers this summer.

  2. Forest are staying in the Prem. that’s sure…no talk of trying to stay in….yes his appointment could of course affect forest.
