Former Palermo owner Maurizio Zamparini is in intensive care at a hospital in Udine.

The 80-year-old Italian owned the Sicilian side from July 2002 to February 2017. He was known for his willingness to dismiss coaches if they did not impress, making over 40 managerial changes in his 15 years in charge of the club.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Zamparini was rushed to hospital in Udine earlier today and he is now in intensive care, with his condition being serious. He underwent surgery after a sudden complication, which was confirmed to not be COVID. Updates are expected in the coming days.

The 80-year-old Italian businessman suffered a tragic news earlier this year after his 23-year-old son Armando was found dead in his flat in London back in October. Armando was Palermo’s mascot as a child and he was often seen on the pitch at the end of training sessions, even taking part in the 2004 promotion party.
