Former Bologna and Verona director of sport Riccardo Bigon is reportedly set to become the new Technical Area Advisor for City Football Group, covering 12 clubs including Manchester City, Palermo and NYCFC.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the appointment has been made and they are now only waiting to make a formal announcement.

It is a prestigious role for Bigon, as the 51-year-old spent his career in the offices of Reggina, Napoli, Hellas Verona and most recently Bologna.

Now the Italian will effectively co-ordinate the strategy for all the 12 clubs under the umbrella of City Football Group.

That includes Premier League champions Manchester City, Serie B side Palermo, Troyes in France, Girona in Spain, NYCFC in MLS, Australia’s Melbourne City, Yokohama Marinos in Japan and more.

City Football Group was established in May 2013 and now has total or partial ownership of 12 clubs across the world, largely funded by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Bigon was a player only at Serie D level, while his father Alberto represented the likes of Napoli, Milan and Lazio.
