Former Milan players Hernan Crespo, Filippo Galli and Alberico Evani gave their thoughts on what Milan need this month as they look to close the gap to the top.
The Rossoneri currently sit nine points behind league leaders Inter after 18 matches, looking far off the mark over the last few months, causing pressure to pile on Stefano Pioli and his players. Many fans are hoping to see some key reinforcements arrive in the winter transfer window.
Milan’s main centre forwards are a veteran Olivier Giroud and an inconsistent Luka Jovic, pushing many to ask for a new striker to arrive to help the team start scoring more goals. This term, they’ve netted 32 in 18 matches, 10 less than Inter but five more than second place Juventus.
Crespo agreed with the assessment that a new striker could help Milan, telling La Gazzetta dello Sport that “If a ten-goal centre forward arrived in this second part of the season, they would be fine”, whilst also highlighting that “the ideal would be to find a ready-made element in Italy”.
Evani suggested that Milan could wait until the summer to find a new striker, believing that Jovic will “be the real signing of the winter market”, noting that “reinforcements are also needed in the other departments”.
Galli agreed with Evani, saying that “in June, obviously, I expect another number nine to arrive”, drawing attention to “Zirkzee, I would like to see him in the Milan shirt from July”.
