Former Milan and England midfielder Ray Wilkins has died after failing to recover from a cardiac arrest.

Wilkins had been placed in an induced coma last week after he reportedly fell and hit his head when his heart stopped.

His son admitted it was ‘touch and go’ over whether he would pull through, but it was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the 61-year-old had passed away.

Wilkins has long been associated with Italian football, spending three years at Milan between 1984 and 1987, and represented England on 84 occasions.
