Sporting director Frederic Massara, who was unceremoniously shown the door at Milan in June, met with Roma director Tiago Pinto last week.

The 54-year-old, who won the Sporting Director of the Year award at the 2022 Globe Soccer Awards alongside Paolo Maldini, was sent packing from the Rossoneri at the end of last season, signalling a change in direction under new owner Gerry Cardinale.

Massara was linked with the Napoli job when it became clear that Cristiano Giuntoli would be heading to Juventus, but Aurelio De Laurentiis ultimately decided to appoint Mauro Meluso.

As detailed by Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Massara was spotted in the stands of the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, watching Roma’s impressive 7-0 win over Empoli.

Following the match, he had a face-to-face meeting with Roma sporting director Pinto, where the two had a positive and productive chat.

Whilst nothing conclusive occurred, common ground was found, and the parties are set to meet again in the coming weeks to further discuss the idea of Massara’s return to Roma.
