Ex-Milan and Man City striker Robinho on Interpol list after rape conviction

Former Milan and Manchester City striker Robinho will be on an Interpol list for immediate arrest and extradition if he leaves Brazil, but Italy will ask for him to see out his nine-year rape conviction in his homeland.

The forward lost his final appeal against the conviction for gang rape of a then-23-year-old woman in a Milan nightclub.

The crime occurred in 2013, when Robinho was signed for Milan, and he has been convicted along with friend Ricardo Falco.

Brazil does not have an extradition treaty with Italy, so Robinho cannot be brought back by force to the Peninsula to see out his sentence.

However, he will go on the Interpol list so that the moment he steps into one of the 195 countries with a treaty, he can be extradited to Italy.

Meanwhile, director general of international relations and judicial co-operation at the Italian Ministry of Justice Stefano Opilio told Globoesporte there is still hope of seeing Robinho face justice.

Italy will request that the Brazilian authorities arrest Robinho and he see out his sentence in a Brazilian jail.

I knew he wouldn’t be extradited but the Brazilian authorities response to this is going to be interesting.
