Ex-Juventus and Napoli star Higuain announces retirement

Former Serie A star Gonzalo Higuain has announced his decision to retire at the end of the on-going MLS season.

The 34-year-old Argentinian forward joined Inter Miami in September 2020 after leaving Juventus on a free transfer, where he found some success after a difficult end to his time in Europe. Higuain’s contract expires with the American outfit at the end of this calendar year and he won’t be searching for a new club.

As announced today, Higuain will hang up his boots when his time with Inter Miami draws to a close, ending a prolific but oft-frustrating career.

The Argentinian forward spent three years with Napoli after leaving Real Madrid, scoring 91 goals in 146 appearances for the club and almost helping drive them to a Scudetto before controversially leaving for Juventus in 2016.

He went on to make 149 appearances for the Bianconeri, netting 66 goals for the club and helping them win three Scudetti. His brief loan spells with Milan and Chelsea failed to impress and he decided to leave Europe for the MLS in 2020.
