Il Corriere della Sera reports new wiretaps involving former Juventus directors, including one where ex-Chief Financial Officer Marco Re admits the Old Lady paid Arthur more than he was worth.

The Brazilian midfielder moved to Turin in 2020 in a swap deal with Barcelona involving Miralem Pjanic.

The Bosnia international joined the Catalans for €60m plus €5m add-ons, while Arthur arrived in Turin for €72m plus €10m bonuses.

The Bianconeri are currently under investigation for financial irregularities, and a preliminary hearing at the Turin court will take place on March 27.

Italian media are reporting wiretaps of former Bianconeri directors, which are part of the proof scrutinised by investigators and the FIGC prosecutor Giuseppe Chiné.

In one of those, reported by Corriere della Sera, former Chief Financial Officer Re spoke about the Arthur-Pjanic swap deal.

“Think of a player like Arthur, who you paid €75m to have a capital gain with Pjanic. It was clear he wasn’t worth as much, was he?” he said.

Arthur spent two seasons at the Allianz Stadium and joined Liverpool on loan last summer.

In another one, ex-CEO Maurizio Arrivabene, who remained in charge for barely a year, said: “From the counts we’ve made, we are out of UEFA parameters, but perhaps we’ve been missing something.”

Current sporting director Federico Cherubini had blamed his predecessor Fabio Paratici in the famous ‘black notebook’, but in one wiretap published by Corriere, he seemed to defend some of the deals completed by the current Tottenham director in Turin.

“It’s tough to determine a player’s value, but we’ve been targeted because we made some deals which appeared to be based on financial values more than technical values, but the truth is that we made interesting operations also on a technical level.”
