Former Chelsea and Italy attacker Gianfranco Zola said Inter could be make their stellar frontline work while Roma‘s European success could be a springboard for next season.

Inter are close to agreeing to re-sign Romelu Lukaku on loan and would pit him alongside Lautaro Martinez, while they are also expected to land Paulo Dybala on a free.

While the top trio would certainly immense quality to the Nerazzurri forward line, there have been some concerns it would affect the team’s balance.

But Zola said the different qualities on show would make them a good match. He told Gazzetta dello Sport: “They are three top strikers.

“Dybala as a trequartista and the other two up top, why not? They guarantee a lot of quality in the attacking part of the field, then it’s about seeing how Simone Inzaghi will set up the rest of the team.

“Finding the balance is fundamental to ensure the defensive side does not suffer. It is a gamble but one worth taking.”

Meanwhile, Zola also believe manager Jose Mourinho could go onto even better achievements at Roma after leading the club to their first piece of silverware in 14 years.

He added: “I have an idea: The Conference League victory can work as a springboard for the whole of next season. Roma thrives on enthusiasm and Mourinho is brilliant at managing it.”

Zola said he would be “disappointed” for Napoli if defender Kalidou Koulibaly joined Juventus but that the Senegal and international and Matthijs de Ligt would make an unstoppable pairing.

While he added that Maurizio Sarri, who he worked as an assistant to at Chelsea in the 2018-19 campaign, would improve on his previous season with Lazio, where they finished in fifth place.
