Former Juventus full back Patrice Evra underlined the psychological strength of Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid ahead of their Champions League semi-final clash against Manchester City.

Los Blancos secured their 35th La Liga title on the weekend, lightening the mood following an incredibly electric 4-3 semi-final first leg against Pep Guardiola’s side last week. Going into tonight’s game a goal down, Real Madrid will be looking for a dominant home performance as they chase their 14th Champions League title and Ancelotti chases his fourth.

Speaking on Amazon Prime Video, Evra discussed the strength of Real Madrid ahead of the Manchester City clash.

“The more time passes, the more the feeling is that Real Madrid don’t need a big game, but then they punish you because psychologically they are ready for this competition. The players are prepared, the history…

“The corner flag marks 13 Champions League titles, it’s funny, but they are details to make you understand where you are. Before you say you hope you want Madrid, when you play you understand that maybe you didn’t want it.”

Ancelotti wrote himself into the history books this season with Real Madrid, becoming the first coach to win all of Europe’s top five leagues. He also became the first coach to take part in the Champions League semi-finals in four different decades, a sign of his incredible longevity and adaptability.
