Italy coach Roberto Mancini and Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci wrote messages for Federico Chiesa on social media: ‘Remember what we said last summer…’

Chiesa has been ruled out until the end of the season with a serious knee injury.

The 24-year-old will undergo surgery in the coming days and is expected to remain out of action for at least six months.

Many of his Juventus teammates sent messages to the Italy international on social media, wishing him a speedy recovery.

Veteran defender Leonardo Bonucci wrote one of the most touching and motivating ones, telling Chiesa not to give up and mentioning Italy’s path to Euro 2020 win.

“Everyone will say that they are with you, that you will come back stronger than before. I only tell you that it’s only up to you,” Bonucci wrote on Instagram.

“You can take two different paths. I won’t even mention one, but the second has already begun and it’s made of hard work. As we said this summer, one centimetre at a time, to become a better man and a better footballer.

“You already know where this path will take you. I am waiting for you.”

Chiesa, who had previously shared a social media message saying he ‘would return soon’ replied to Bonucci saying: “We’ll meet again very soon and you know that.”

Italy coach Roberto Mancini also reacted to Chiesa’s injury on Twitter. “Injuries are part of players’ career as we saw this summer,” he said remembering Leonardo Spinazzola’s Achilles injury during the Euros. “But what makes the difference is the desire to get up and you are full of it. We are waiting for you, Fede.”

  1. Disaster for Juve and Italy.

He’s unplayable when he’s at his best, and both teams could have really done with him.

  2. CR7 brings in big bucks in the Middle East.
FIFA wont let those dollars disappear….

UEFA wanted to up interest in the WC playoffs…what better way…

    All is predetermined…

  3. Sadly, I feel this will change the way Chiesa plays when he does return.

You won’t see him take players on and relish the chance to beat a man with skill and pace. Will just be afraid of being hacked down again.

In the EC Final, he made 2 runs that led to chances. England caught on and eliminated him from the match with a tackle.

Roma vs Juve, again, 2 English players combine to eliminate him.

I don’t blame him for doing it, but it’s inevitable.

    Forza Fede

  4. ABC,

If that were true, wouldn’t they have fixed the Draw to have Portugal get easier teams in the Playoffs?

Then Turkey, North Macedonia or Italy will just have to score clear goals and not concede the other way.

  5. I do not believe it is predetermined. In many ways, I prefer that should we win the semi, we would have a very tough opponent. This way, we have to play very well and win. It is as simple as that. Lets get behind them and let the games decide who will go to the WC 2022. Forza Azzurri.

  6. Italy’s chances just plummeted.
    huge hole to fill.
hes certainly is/was the catalyst to azzurri reaching Qatar.
