Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta are inspiring everyone in Europe, claims Verona coach Ivan Juric, and thinking of the Scudetto. ‘He’s only behind Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.’
La Dea have leapfrogged Inter into third place, sitting only two points adrift of Lazio and are up against leaders Juventus this weekend.
“I think Gasperini is thinking about the Scudetto,” Juric told Sky Sport Italia.
For many years, Juric was a midfielder in Gasperini’s Genoa, then worked as his assistant manager before branching out on his own, so few know the Atalanta boss better.
“Gasperini has been underestimated for years. They always talk about the negative experience at Inter, but trust me, I was there, the best coach in the world couldn’t have changed what was happening at that moment.
“Now we are all stealing from him, including Inter, clubs abroad, and of course me. He had the courage to propose a completely new and attacking style of football.
“As far as I am concerned, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola maybe are in front, but then there’s Gasperini. It’s the first really new development in football since tiki-taka.
“After so many years, we have a coach who has done something completely new. Now we’re seeing sides in Germany trying to do the same things as Atalanta. He’s always a step ahead of the rest, anyway.”
