Everton are ready to make a bid for Roma defender Chris Smalling, according to LaRoma24 in Italy.

The 31-year-old centre-back cost €15m in October 2020, after €3m was paid for the one-season loan from Manchester United.

He barely featured this season due to numerous injury problems, making 21 competitive appearances for the Giallorossi.

Now LaRoma24.it are claiming that Everton are interested in bringing him back to the Premier League.

However, it would require a high enough fee to ensure Roma aren’t losing out on the money spent under a year ago, and a project that the player would be interested in.

Roma are starting a new era under coach Jose Mourinho next term and Smalling is expected to be a part of it.

Before coming to Manchester United in 2010, Smalling’s previous clubs were Millwall, Maidstone and Fulham.

He is under contract with the Serie A side until June 2023.
