Parma President Tomasso Ghiradi says a European place would be the icing on the cake for his side but believes the season has been a success regardless.

The 38-year-old also praised the Gialloblu’s youth structure and said he hopes Antonio Cassano gets into Italy’s World Cup squad.

“It’s already been a triumph to get these results in such a difficult economic period,” Ghirardi said to Il Sole 24 Ore.

“If we get the icing on the cake of a European place then fantastic.

“We are working in the Italian market, we are among the teams with the most Italian players in their squad.

“The youth academy’s results are showing that we are doing our jobs well.

“Our sports centre is helping us. We have built a medical rehabilitation centre and a club house that allows the players to sleep and eat in the same place.

“I think even this has played a part in helping us produce good players.

“It can’t be a coincidence that we have been able to produce so many important players who wear our shirt.

“Cassano? I hope he goes to Brazil, he is doing exceptional things here.

“He deserves the chance to go to Brazil.”
