UEFA have announced the schedule for the 2022-23 Europa League, giving Serie A sides Lazio and Roma a chance to prepare for their European campaigns.
The Roman clubs are Italy’s two representatives in European football’s second biggest club competition and they’ll be looking for a strong showing internationally, especially Jose Mourinho’s Roma after their exciting Europa Conference League success last season.
Roma have been drawn into Group C alongside Ludogorets, Real Betis and HJK Helsinki, whilst Lazio will compete in Group F with Feyenoord, Midtjylland and Sturm Graz.
No Italian side has won the Europa League in the 21st century, with the last winners from the peninsula being Parma in 1999, who beat Olympique Marseille 3-0 to lift the trophy. The year prior Inter beat Lazio 3-0 in the final, the last time Italian teams tasted success in the competition. Inter came close in the 2019-20 season, but fell to Sevilla 3-2 in the final.
