A late goal line block by Bryan Cristante allowed Mourinho’s side to escape with a win, giving them a key boost for the second leg.
Bayer Leverkusen cannot count on Patrik Schick, Patrick Pentz, Andrey Lunev, Odilon Kossounou, Robert Andrich and Karim Bellarabi, all of whom are dealing with injuries.
Roma are without Marash Kumbulla, Zeki Celik, Rick Karsdorp and Diego Llorente, all sidelined with injuries, and both Chris Smalling and Stephan El Shaarawy are in doubt.
