The first EURO 2024 round of 16 fixture between Switzerland and Italy will be watched by around 70,000 supporters in-person at Berlin’s Olympiastadion on Saturday evening, but only a fraction of those spectators are expected to be Azzurri fans.

How many Italy supporters against Switzerland

According to updates from Calciomercato.com, only around 6,000 of those 70,000 attendees are expected to be Italian supporters.

That is because the vast majority of tickets were sold before the knockout draw was confirmed, so there was no guarantee that Italy would even end up on this side of the draw.

In fact, the national team came within seconds of elimination from EURO 2024 at the end of the group stage. Had Mattia Zaccagni not equalised in the final minute of injury time against Croatia on Monday night, Italy would have been knocked out.

The Croatia match also gave the Azzurri a taste of playing in an outnumbered environment. There were, in fact, almost twice the number of Croatian supporters in attendance in Leipzig as there were Italians.
