Federico Chiesa was tested in the trident attack rather than Domenico Berardi ahead of Italy’s UEFA EURO 2020 quarter-final with Belgium.

It kicks off in Munich on Friday at 20.00 UK time.

According to Sky Sport Italia, today’s training session saw the same XI that beat Austria, with the lone exception of Chiesa stepping in for Berardi.

It’s not entirely surprising, considering the Juventus winger came off the bench to score the opener in extra time, followed by a goal from fellow substitute Matteo Pessina.

Chiesa has been pushing for a starting spot from the start of the tournament and now seems more likely to start against Belgium.

The other big decisions that need to be made are in midfield, where either Marco Verratti or Nicolò Barella could step aside for Manuel Locatelli or Matteo Pessina, but the traditional trio with Jorginho should remain.

Giorgio Chiellini is back in full training and ought to start rather than Francesco Acerbi in defence.

Alessandro Florenzi finally resumed training today after 19 days, so for the first time since the team came together to prepare for this tournament, Italy have all 26 players considered fit.

Nonetheless, Florenzi was out for so long that Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Rafael Toloi are more likely to contend for the right-back role.

Italy (probable): Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Bonucci, Chiellini, Spinazzola; Barella, Jorginho, Verratti; Chiesa, Immobile, Insigne
